MANAGEMENT TRAINING

Many employees who demonstrate a degree of technical competence and show high potential are typically promoted to supervisory or management positions. In doing so their roles change from that of ‘being given work objectives and doing the job themselves’, to ‘guiding others to achieve work objectives’.

This change from managing one's self to managing others requires the development of a completely new set of skills.

Similar to the acquisition of most technical skills, people-management skills do not always come naturally, and may need to be acquired through formal training, on the job training, reading, coaching, practice, practice and yet more practice.

Sometimes if these skills are not fully acquired, it can lead to feelings of failure, lower morale, poor productivity, not to mention unnecessary and expensive labour turnover.
